Fairy formula remains a good replacement choice, specially designed to meet your child's needs, unlike cow's, soy or goat's milk.

Manufacturers add sugars, vitamins and minerals to milk protein, whether animal (cow) or vegetable (soya lipids), that are adapted to baby's nutritional needs. Manufacturers are trying to replicate the benefits of this milk by giving it a better balance and making it more absorbable and digestible.

There are different kinds of milk formulas: regular formulas, special formulas and therapeutic formulas.

Regular formula is the first option when your non-breastfed baby is born. It is prepared from cow's milk protein with or without iron. However, it is recommended to choose a formula with iron in order to prevent iron deficiency anemia and its possible consequences on the baby's development.

There is also a range of specialized soy-based or lactose-free milk preparations, with omega-3 and omega-6 for example. It's up to you to compare their nutritional values and find out which one will suit thebetter for your baby. Also ask the mothers around you about your doctor or your pharmacist.

If you notice that your child does not tolerate formula well (stomach aches, colic or regurgitation) ask your doctor and he or she can suggest a special formula or better adapted to baby.
