After a day of work, do you like to unwind with a glass of wine? The children are fed, washed and in bed, you deserve it, right? Not having this drink, for 28 days, how does it feel?

Everywhere, both in traditional media and on social networks, the cliché of the mother with a glass of wine in her hand has become so present that we do not notice even more. He added to the cliché of the mom who drives a minivan, wears "slack" or in 2018, yoga pants, and that of the mom who can't function without her coffee in the morning.

Cliché that has become acceptable because being a mom is demanding and you deserve it, right?

Ah! My glass of wine

Why take the 28 Day Alcohol Free Challenge then?

I was never really challenged by this challenge. Consuming a glass of wine or a beer on social occasions only, this “challenge” is not really for me. Make a donation for the cause, no problem! But participate? Bof.

Then this year, with a boy in the middle of terrible two, I realized that bottles of wine and beer often filled my binrecycling and that my visits to the SAQ became more and more frequent. However, I don't have any drinking problems. I love my glass of wine at the end of a long day, I deserve it. Then one glass became two, then we empty the bottle so as not to waste it, then Friday is the weekend and the friends come over for dinner, etc.

I repeat myself: without having "drinking problems", alcohol has taken a growing place in my life.

My small glass of wine (or two…) helps me to relax, to let go after telling my son 20 times to brush his teeth, to trying for a 1000e times to convince him to pee in his potty instead of his diaper and makes me forget about the 20 minute debate I had with my ex earlier in phone regarding our son's education.

My glass of wine soothes me.

28 days to replace alcohol

I keep telling myself that I don't have a substance abuse problem, but I still have a problem. The problem of using alcohol to decompress and justify myself using my role as a mother and my 1001 responsibilities…

Discussing with people around me, I realized that one of my colleagues had the same “addiction”. We use alcohol as a reward and to soothe us after a long day. We have therefore decided to take up, throughout the month of February, the 28 days without alcohol challenge this year.

Twenty-eight days to not only give our bodies a break from allalcohol consumption and thus reap the benefits, but above all 28 days to find alternatives to this feeling that alcohol gives us after a day of work and tasks. Twenty-eight days to work out, read a book, take a walk or even draw.

We prepare by reading several articles that give tips and advice. We promise to give you a report at the end.

In the meantime, would you like to join us?
