We can choose a first name as best we can, but it will not necessarily give what we expected in the end. Nicknames and nicknames will catch on for better and for worse.

There are parents who love the familiarity of nicknames and nicknames and others who hate it so much that they choose their child's name accordingly. As parents, we form an idea of our child's future friendships long before he is born and the first name is one of the variables that are part of it and that we can control a little in advance.
However, parents may choose the first name Alexandre so that their child is called Alex, nothing obliges primary and secondary school friends to do so. Once we have given our child a first name, this first name makes its way and will give what it will give, depending on the friends it meets on its way. You can still do your part since a Juliette is much more likely to be called Juju than an Anne who will always be called Anne.
If you like diminutives
If you find that diminutives have a little affectionate and friendly je-ne-sais-quoi, you can help them out a bit.things by choosing a first name that has several syllables. For example, Alexandra becomes Alex, Gabriel becomes Gab or Gaby, Fredéric and Frédérique become Fred or Frédou and Philippe becomes Phil.
Names that begin with a consonant are also easier to transform because the first syllable can be doubled. For example, Julien becomes Juju and Clotilde becomes Cloclo. Try repeating the first syllable of your favorite name and see how well it sounds.
Some first names also have their diminutives even if you didn't necessarily think of them at first. Charles, for example, can become Charlie, that's obvious, but we wouldn't necessarily think of the Chuck used by English speakers. Chuck Norris is a Charles and Charlie Brown also calls himself Chuck on occasion. Other diminutives used on the English side that are less obvious include Bill for William, Hank for Henry, Frank for François or Francis, and Dick for Richard.

If you dread diminutives
If on the contrary you prefer to avoid diminutives because you were en titled to them during a good part of your childhood, it is also possible to do so. By choosing a very short first name, you can avoid most diminutives. Anne, in particular, has no diminutive. You can search as long as you want (and believe me, my friends have done it!), it is impossible to create one for this name.
Other names can also be usedhardly, like:
- Valentine
- Leo
- Axelle
- Noah
- Liam
- Victor
- Aurelian
- Adam
- Arsene
- Maude
- Mia
- Etc.
Also think about testing the first name with the last name when thinking about diminutives. For example, a Thomas Matte will quickly become Tom Matte at school.

And the nicknames, them?
Choosing nicknames is a whole other story that usually doesn't really find its source in the parents. You won't be able to cut it, some people end up with a nickname that sticks with them no matter how much energy you put into finding the perfect first name.
Réjean Houle, for example, was called “Peanut” by his family and friends. I doubt very much that his mother imagined that it happened by choosing the name Réjean. Many others ended up with nicknames, like the Rocket, to stay in the hockey community, which earned this nickname thanks to its prowess. Life will decide. Maybe your child will have a nickname that will irritate them the most or maybe they will dream of nicknames all their life and never get one. You will see well. If it is, you will find him one before long, and perhaps this affectionate nickname will stay with him all his life, so it's worth thinking about it a little before calling him Puce or Doudoune. !
