Twins have always fascinated people: this is still true today. Here's what not to say to the parents of twins (partly because they don't sleep much and their patience is tested!)

Is it a natural pregnancy?
Unless you're very ready for future parents, that's really none of your business. It's a real pregnancy, whatever, and they're real babies too.

Whew! Must be work?
That, or leave with a "Good luck!" filled with sympathy. Yes, having twins is hard work. Yes, parents of twins are tired. Why not congratulate them, instead? After all, twins are also twice as happy!

It makes you want to have another one
No, not necessarily. But it can make you want to continue this conversation…

How do you tell them apart?
It may be hard to believe, but even though they look a lot alike, they are two different babies. This is also why we gave them two different first names. Oh! And sincehere we are: you can use these first names, instead of calling them “the twins”.

Are these real?
Real… babies? Yes, yes: even if you look at them as if they were strange or made of plastic, they are real real babies, born on the same day, therefore twins. Let it be said: true, false, this is terminology that parents of twins do not particularly like. They prefer that we use the correct terms, i.e. monozygotic and dizygotic.

They sense when the other is hungry, or in pain…
They also communicate telepathically, do telekinesis and magic. Stuff you've seen on TV is called fiction.

Can you breastfeed them?
First: yes, it is absolutely possible to breastfeed twins. As with breastfeeding an only child, the practice is easier for some than for others. Second, whether or not a woman decides to breastfeed, whether she succeeds or not, is up to her.

My sister-in-law had twins: she went through hell
Great: I won't invite myself to her house to ask her for advice! And by the way, thank you very much for the encouragement. It always feels good, a little positive!

I wouldn't have wanted it
That's good: they're not your babies. In the same line, we avoid the "I don't know how you do – what I would have done…” Having twins is not a disease. So avoid talking about it with regret or sympathy, as if the life of the parents was over: on the contrary, it begins and it is doubly rich!

Avoid questionable and easy pranks
“We worked hard! or "Did we work overtime?" “, throwing a little wink at dad…” Photocopies! », « There was a promotion? », « A 2 for 1! », and all the other supermarket jokes, but especially the famous one: « Didn’t you want to return one? “We avoid them. All. They're not very funny, and usually parents of twins have all heard these pranks before (and didn't find them particularly funny the first time around.)
