The counter is the space that should allow you to become a great chef, but over the years it has become cluttered with spices, a small oven, utensils and decorative elements. Here are 10 ways to get your space back.

Hang the utensils
If your pot of utensils falls over at every opportunity because the spatula is heavier than the ladle and your pot is too short, install a bar like this. They are practical, give a tidy look and free up your space. You will find it in many home improvement and decoration stores. The one you see is from Ikea and costs $9.99.

Reserve space for electrical parts
To cook good meals, you get a panini grill, a waffle iron and a raclette grill that end up taking up a lot of space when you want to keep them close at hand. Reserve a place in your dresser, in a large drawer or in a cupboard where they can easily be used without encroaching on your work surface.

Spices
There are several solutions for storingspices and prevent them from spilling or taking up too much space on the counter. Among these, the magnetic pots are certainly the most practical. You can stick them on the refrigerator or use a magnetic bar that you will install just above your stove. You can also buy a small wooden shelf if your kitchen is more country style.

The dish soap
If you like very uncluttered environments, leaky and space-consuming dish soap bottles have probably been bugging you for years. To get rid of it, you can use sponges with a reservoir that will allow you to store what's left of the bottle elsewhere, or get a wall reservoir.

Good wine bothers me
If you appreciate good wine, but not yet enough to have a wine cellar, get a wall rack that will allow you to quickly see what you have on hand without making a mess on the counter.

A magnetic knife bar
We talked about a magnetic bar for storing spices, it's also a good way to store your knives. They will be well ordered there, far from the too heavy wooden sheaths which easily lose their balance. They will also be too high for children to touch.

Use the table
To make your children want to eat fruits andvegetables, place a fruit bowl on the table rather than the counter. In addition to freeing up your space, colorful fruits will brighten up your table.

Herb tablet
If you like growingherbs in the kitchen, you can put them on a shelf that will be just the right height to be accessible and to give a little light to your plants. By choosing colorful pots, you will beautify your kitchen and free up your counter.

Light up your surface
If your counter is well lit, you'll be more tempted to put it away as you go. A nice way to do this is to buy track lights, available at hardware stores or at Ikea. These tracks are discreet and easier to install than recessed lights.

Nice cutting board
If you are unable to follow these tips and your counter always becomes a storage surface, buy an imposing cutting board. The best boards are made of wood, and you'll find some great ones at stores like Homesense and other kitchen speci alty stores. All the space that will be occupied by the board will be reserved for your culinary activities and it will always be a win…
